Are American’s Really this Stupid?

“Nature gave man two ends – one to sit on and one to think with. Ever since then, man’s success or failure has been dependent on the one he used most.” George R. Kirkpatrick (1867-1937) Lecturer

In mid-2007, the housing market crash predicted by many and ignored by tens of millions “suddenly” became a raging path of destruction across this country. By summer 2008, panic set in and the thieves in the U.S. Congress literally stole the fruits of your labor to unconstitutionally bail out banks and the auto industry. Without a scintilla of constitutional authority, the federal mafia bled us dry while 401(k)s bled in millions of households.

Americans got angry. They said we will hold you responsible in November 2010!

Sure, they did. With an approval rating of 11% for the gangsters in the Outlaw Congress, a whopping 86% of incumbents were sent back to Washington, DC., after the 2010 elections to continue stealing us blind and passing more and more unconstitutional laws while allowing alphabet soup agencies like the FDA, EPA and USDA to continue running amok. I suppose one could say it was an improvement over the usual 96% reelection stats for incumbents.

Great fanfare went on though over the success of getting tea party candidates elected. Newbies who said all the right things while saying nothing. A new set of Band Aid pushers who have yet to understand the critical issues destroying this country: the disabilities of our monetary system, heavy progressive taxation, unconstitutional foreign aid, getting the US out of the UN; the list goes on and on. They just keep on voting for unconstitutional funding while saying the latest flavor of what appeals to voters.

In a June 24, 2012, poll finding from Rassmussen: “Only 22% of the nation’s likely voters believe the government today has such consent.”

In other words, 78% of the American people believe the U.S. Congress is doing whatever the hell they want without any regard to we the people.

There is a great rage blowing across this country because the thieves in the Outlaw Congress aren’t just spending us into poverty, they are destroying a once great constitutional republic. Well, guess what? People are so dang mad, they’ve gone to the polls and once again voted for their own destruction during the 2012 primary cycle.

There are still many primaries before the November pretend elections covering the U.S. House of Representatives. Since no one has the legal right to vote for any U.S. Senator, I’ve ignored those numbers. But, let’s take a look at just how angry people are and we’ll remember in November!

Using two web sites, ballotpedia and the official U.S. house web site, I looked at the primary election results for a handful of states – just the U.S. House. It made me sick.

Alabama – 7 districts – 7 incumbents won
California 53 districts – 44 incumbents won
Illinois 18 districts – 14 incumbents won
Indiana – 9 district – 6 incumbents won
Iowa – five districts – 4 incumbents won
Mississippi – 4 districts – 4 incumbents won
North Carolina – 13 districts – 10 incumbents won
Ohio – 18 districts – 15 incumbents won
Pennsylvania – 19 districts – 16 incumbents won
South Carolina – 7 districts – 6 incumbents won
Texas – 36 districts – 30 incumbents won
Virginia 11 districts – 11 incumbents won

Some seats were uncontested, either party, so the incumbent will walk right back in come November. New districts were created as a result of the 2010 census based on counting illegal aliens; those seats are up for grabs. Some incumbents are retiring, which you and I will pay for until they leave this earth in retirement and benefits.

The American people in those states are so happy with the destruction of their rights and the fleecing of their wallets by their incumbents, collectively they’re going to send back 167 of the same crooks, cowards and incompetent jackals to finish us off. There is still a pretend election in November where Republican incumbents will square off against a Democrat who won the primary on their party ticket; the same applies just the opposite.

However, with the average return of incumbents to the Outlaw Congress being 96%, most of those 167 primary winners will win. There are 435 U.S. House seats. With many more primaries to go, those numbers will increase by the hundreds.

It is virtually impossible to remove a member of Congress once they’re in the door. In some of the primaries above, the incumbent had no opposite party challenge because incumbents like Sheila Jackson Lee and Mad Max Waters get reelected for decades because they are hard core socialists and their constituents love feeding off your paycheck.

How in the hell do voters expect to change the direction of this country and stop the bleeding if they continue to vote for incumbents?

Oh, that’s right. It’s not my representative, it’s the Democrats and visa versa. I’ve lived here in West Texas for six years and not once did I vote for the incompetent, constitutionally challenged Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX). I have voted for a Republican running against him the past three elections who never had a chance because the challenger wasn’t kissed and blessed by the party machine. Old Randy is the standard in Congress: he votes for unconstitutional legislation everyday, but he loves veterans!

How is it the American people are so furious with the mantra across the country, throw the bums out, yet the bums continue to win their primaries and the general election? Are Americans really that stupid?

Yes, but it’s also electronic vote fraud, illegals voting and voter registration fraud to keep the puppets in office who will continue the agenda desired by the shadow government and those who pull the strings in Washington, DC.

Let me give you a prime example: John Boehner, speaker of the U.S. House. He has voted for every destructive trade treaty that’s come down the pipeline. <>His vote for NAFTA and GATT/WTO killed hundreds of thousands of jobs in his state. Boehner violated the U.S. Constitution when he voted for the TARP theft of your wallet. He voted yes on making the Bill of Rights killer, the “Patriot” Act, permanent.

In 2000, Boehner voted against getting us out GATT/WTO – a killer for America and vital for one world government. Full page ad, New York Times, April 15, 1994:

“1944. Bretton Woods: The IMF and the World Bank. 1945. San Francisco: The United Nations. 1994, Marrakech: The World Trade Organization. History knows where it’s going. The final act of the Uruguay Round….to the WTO, the third pillar of the New World Order, along with the UN and the IMF.”

Boehner has voted for every critical treaty to advance one world government in lockstep with the impostor in the White House, yet that vile individual continues to win going on 22 straight years. I believe in his case it has been vote fraud keeping Johnny in office. Make sure the puppets stay in office to do the bidding of those who really control our lives. As Kelleigh Nelson reminded people in her last column:

“Remember the words of Clinton’s mentor, Carroll Quigley, professor of history at Georgetown University and author of the 1966 book, Tragedy and Hope. “The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can ‘throw the rascals out’ at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy. Then it should be possible to replace it, every four years if necessary, by the other party, which will be none of these things but will still pursue, with new vigor, approximately the same basic policies.”

Vote fraud has already played a role in the primaries. Again. Here are some numbers from my Blind Loyalty booklet published many years ago. I have no doubt that if you compare those numbers to the last six elections (California), the winning percentages for those life time incumbents will be virtually the same.

Don’t look to any change come this November as far as the U.S. Congress. The same outlaws will get reelected after winning their primaries and it will be back to business as usual come January. Remember that Rassmussen poll I cited above? 78% of the American people believe the outlaws in the U.S. Congress are governing without their consent, yet they have gone to the polls and voted to reelect the same parasites in dozens of primaries. You hire someone to do a job, they do just the opposite and you turn right around and give them your vote – again.

Does any of this make sense to you? It does to me. Between uninformed voters, vote fraud, blind party loyalty and special interest blocks of useful fools casting ballots, it all spells a receipe for more disaster. That is why we have to put our time and resources into the state legislatures. More to come on that.

1- Re-electing the Band Aid Brigade (May 2010)
2- Electing new Band Aid Pushers (May 2012)
3- Uninformed, disinterested, brainwashed & special interest voters (2006)
4- Is it treason and who will stop it?

Four For Freedom

Given the choices for President that the two major parties have given us over the last couple of decades (including this year), it is a truism that it really doesn’t matter much whether the Democrat or the Republican nominee is elected. No, it really doesn’t. In fact, in many respects, the cause of liberty suffers more under Republican administrations than under Democrat ones. For example, we lost far more liberties under G.W. Bush than we did under Bill Clinton. And as bad as Barack Obama is, John McCain would have been even worse! The same people that control one control the other. The difference is, at least when a Democrat is in the White House, conservatives and Christians actively mount rigorous resistance. However, when a neocon Republican is in the White House, conservatives and Christians say nary a word of protest.

With this in mind, it was extremely disconcerting to me when I heard Senator Rand Paul endorse Mitt Romney last week. Mitt Romney is nothing more than Barack Obama lite! And every true conservative and constitutionalist knows it. Put Romney in the White House and it will be George H.W. Bush and G.W. Bush all over again. Goodbye freedom; goodbye Constitution; goodbye balanced budget; hello more foreign wars; hello more burgeoning police state; hello more surveillance society; hello more deficit spending, etc.

And on a personal note, I cannot express my disappointment in Rand Paul enough! With his father, Ron Paul, stepping down from Congress, we had all hoped that Rand would become the leading voice for constitutional government on Capitol Hill that his father has been for all of these years. In my opinion, Rand forfeited that leadership position when he endorsed Mitt Romney. Of course, we all know why Rand did it. It was the “politically correct” thing to do. Rand is, no doubt, posturing himself for a higher office. But the GOP establishment will never embrace Rand Paul, unless he were to totally recant his constitutionalist ideals. Romney will pick a controlled Vice President. I thought that fellow Bilderberg invitee, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, would be Romney’s choice; except it seems now that he is about to become the president of Purdue University.

Ron Paul’s star quality is his unwillingness to compromise with the globalist establishment. In fact, in 2008, Ron Paul refused to endorse the neocon, John McCain, and endorsed a constitutionalist third party candidate for President instead. Obviously, Rand is no Ron. That’s a shame!

To hear more of my thoughts on the Rand Paul endorsement of Mitt Romney, here is a link to an interview I did with Alex Jones:

The only thing that electing these “lesser of two evils” politicians does is continue the slippery slope into socialism, fascism, corporatism, etc. It is absolutely critical that the American people wake up to this reality!

That doesn’t mean that every person we vote for is perfect, or that they have never made a mistake, etc. But what it does mean is that we should be convinced that the people we vote for have a proven track record of commitment to constitutional government and the principles of liberty–and that they are NOT CONTROLLED by the establishment. Say what you want about Ron Paul, the establishment has never controlled him! And for that reason alone, he should be President! (And, no, I do not believe that there is a snowball’s chance in hell of Ron Paul endorsing Mitt Romney.)

At the highest levels, anti-freedomists control the establishment political system, the establishment media, and establishment religion. This is why, since Ronald Reagan was President, it hasn’t mattered to a tinker’s dam whether a Republican or Democrat has been in the White House. And this is why it won’t matter to a tinker’s dam whether Mitt Romney beats Barack Obama or not.

However, I will tell you what does matter: electing constitutionalists to our State and local governments. As I have said many times in this column, freedom will be won or lost at the State level. Accordingly, I want to introduce you to four men who are running for various positions of State (and in the case of one, national) office. I know each of these men personally and am able to recommend them to you. I am asking that readers will sincerely consider supporting these men by sending them a donation to help their campaigns.

Timothy Baldwin

Tim is my youngest son. He is a constitutional attorney. He has written some monumental books on the subjects of liberty, constitutional government, and Natural Law. He is one of the most learned and studied men on these subjects that one would ever meet.

Many readers already know Tim. Perhaps, you have read one or two of his books. Perhaps, you have heard him speak. He has been on radio interviews from coast to coast and is a prolific writer. His grasp of history, law, and government is truly incredible!

His books, FREEDOM FOR A CHANGE and ROMANS 13: THE TRUE MEANING OF SUBMISSION, are absolutely must-reading. To order these books, go to:

Tim is running for Montana House District 4. If you can help Tim, would you please do so? Here is his campaign website where you can donate:

Jerry O’Neill

Jerry is running for reelection in Montana House District 3. Jerry has a proven record in both the Montana House and Senate as a true champion for freedom, limited government, and adherence to the Constitution. A man is known as much by his enemies as by his friends. Accordingly, Jerry has been a thorn in the side of big-government toadies across the State of Montana ever since he was first elected. And they are working hard to try and take Jerry out of the Montana State House. Can you help Jerry O’Neill? If you can, please send check or money order to:

Charles Key

Charles just might be one of the twenty most important constitutionalist leaders in the entire country. He is commonly referred to as “The Ron Paul of Oklahoma.” He is a former Oklahoma legislator who led the investigation into the Oklahoma City bombing. His “Final Report” on that tragedy just might be the most consummate piece of investigative research into the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building ever compiled. He was attacked and impugned mercilessly during that time and stood like a rock for his pursuit of truth. Charles has been in the trenches for over two decades.

Charles has worked hard to expand the national efforts of the Fully Informed Jury Association. He has staunchly supported Tenth Amendment bills in Oklahoma. He has led in the effort to preserve America’s sovereignty on matters like the North American Superhighway. And he defied the Romney Republicans in Oklahoma when they tried to break their own rules at the Oklahoma GOP convention. Charles Key is a fighter!

Charles is now seeking the office of the Clerk of the Court of Oklahoma County. This is a key post in the State of Oklahoma, and Charles is the perfect man for the job. Can you help Charles Key? If so, here is the website where you can donate:

Steve Stockman

If patriots are looking for someone to be a voice for constitutionalism, limited government, and freedom in the similitude of Ron Paul, Steve Stockman is the man! Steve is running for a US congressional district seat outside of Houston, Texas, which is very close to Ron Paul’s district. I was very happy to fly to Houston a few weeks ago and deliver a campaign speech for Steve. That’s how much I believe in Steve Stockman.

Steve beat out a field of candidates, including a host of wealthy big-government toadies, to earn a spot in the run-off election, which will take place on Tuesday, July 31. With the help of fellow conservatives and constitutionalists, Steve has an excellent chance of winning this election! If you want to send someone to Washington, D.C., in the similitude of Ron Paul, help Steve Stockman get elected! Plus, is it a coincidence that Steve is from the same general area as Ron Paul? Maybe not.

Steve’s opposition is spending over $300,000 to win this run-off. If Steve is going to win, he will need the help of people like you and me. If you would like to help Steve Stockman win this run-off, please go to this web site to donate:

These are four men for freedom! I’m sure that there are many others across the country who deserve the support of freedom-loving people as well. However, these are men that I personally know and am excited to support. Please help them anyway you can.

U.S. Government Quitting on Itself

These are anxious times, teetering on a proverbial edge towards dreamlike fall to something and somewhere else. President Obama has frequently characterized this as a “critical moment,” and I do tend to agree. The difference is that I do not want to teeter us off into an abyss of socialism, but rather to roll us back gently from it. American history hasn’t been so bad after all, and freemen and free markets have never substantially failed and have certainly never quit this country, no matter what else may have gone wrong. On the contrary, it is the country’s Government that appears ready to quit on itself, but this would be a singular tragedy with irreversible consequences for the world.

According to Professor Donald Kagan of Yale, historian and subject matter expert on Western Civilization, all law and indeed every constitution rests ultimately on force. If the citizen will pause to think about it, he knows it is true even for ours. It is only by granting a monopoly or near monopoly on the use of force, normally through the aegis of government, that civilized and orderly, and indeed modern life is made possible. That’s what the president and congressmen, policemen and soldiers in our system, are all about. Nevertheless from the standpoint of justice not all regimes are alike or equal.

A tyrant will make laws, maybe even some good ones. He will induce stability and room perhaps for the favored few or favored class to thrive. The majority who mind their corners may even find in them a modicum of freedom, or at least comfort there.

“Stay out of politics” is a wise saying in many parts of the world where strong leaders rule and a single party controls things. If one does this, he may live longer and prosper more on crumbs. In general, however, based on the most ancient American criterion of freedom, only those constitutions that rest on the freely expressed consent of the people, responsibly its citizens are legitimate.

Today as in the time of Socrates in Athens, citizens are free to question the law and to try and change it by legal means, free indeed to leave their country without penalty if they find it offensive. In the meantime we have a moral obligation to peace and to obey the law, however little we may like it. To the point, at least, according to the Declaration of Independence, when Government becomes destructive of the ends to which it has been justly established. This is the point at which the Government quits itself, and the people in order to remain free must alter or abolish their Government and institute a new one.

It is similar to the idea of changing political affiliations when and if the party you belonged to radically changes its platform in key respects. You didn’t leave that party, but rather the party left you; and likewise, it is possible though more difficult and rare for the Government to so debase the Constitution and its founding traditions that it may no longer be truly called the Government of the United States of America.

There will be turbulent markets. That being said, Government as such ought to remain consistent to its purpose and its core animating principles. The same rights it secures according to the Constitution are the rights that must be secured in good times and in bad. Indeed, the stronger the challenge facing us, the more have the people counted on leaders in the Government to serve with integrity and be that steady anchor and not to throw everything to the whirlwind. That’s why we have elections as scheduled, in peace and in war. That’s why taxation without representation is never allowed and always a call to arms.

If King George III in effect justified the American Revolution for having “combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation…” then presumably the Chief Executive who does the same today runs the same risk. Borrowing terminology Star Parker has used, president Obama seems intent on moving everyone onto Uncle Sam’s Plantation. I’m sure Uncle Sam will be a benevolent master, but while we have the choice we may think twice. Parker writes, “Americans can accept Barack Obama’s invitation to move onto the plantation. Or they can choose personal responsibility and freedom.”

In point of fact, the American people can choose much else besides—and they have the political tradition of doing so whenever the Government quits on itself. Yet citizens shouldn’t have to, when as Kagan explains, they want and “they need leaders who understand that individual freedom, self-government, and equality before the law are of the highest value…. And they especially need leaders with the talents to persuade their impatient citizens that these political institutions are the necessary first foundation for a decent regime and a good life for all.” The exigency of the moment, critical or otherwise, demands no less.

The True Nature of the Battle

* The message below was delivered by Rusty Thomas on Saturday at our 2012 Constitution Party of Texas State Convention held June 9th in Huntsville.

By God’s grace, I’d like to give some opening remarks and then launch into the meat of the message. First, a nation can survive wicked, foolish leaders. It cannot survive a wicked, foolish people who elect them. The Obama Administration is not the root of the problem, but a fruit of the problem. Obama is God’s ex-ray that reveals the wretched state of our nation. The godless public
education has taken its toll upon the American mind as Marxism has moved from the class room to the White House. There is a direct connection between our spiritual and moral state and the litany of woe upon the land.

There are two sins, once they reach heaven you are in deep trouble with the Almighty. They are child sacrifice and homosexuality. No nation that condoned those two abominations survived to brag about it. Psalm 106 declares, “Those who hate you will rule over you.”

I believe we are beyond a political solution to what ails us as a nation. We need a heaven-sent revival that will arm an obedient church with a Biblical worldview on law and government to replace the chain on the federal beast that is devouring our liberties and children’s future. Our one hope is for the church to repent and reclaim her calling as salt and light to give God a reason to show
mercy to a nation that is begging for more of His wrath.

Genesis 3:15 not only introduces the first mention of the gospel of the Kingdom and its promised Messiah, It also commenced the battle for the souls of men, the lives of children, and the future of our planet. The Bible reveals two competing camps. One is the seed of the serpent and the other the seed of the woman. How are they recognized? The seed of the serpent is known by, “my body, my choice, I do want I want to do, when I want to do it, with whomever I choose to do it with and my one great commandment is thou shalt not judge me, get out of my face.” The seed of the woman is defined by “not my will, but thine be done.”

We are all born into this world as part of the seed of the serpent, this is why Jesus demands we must be born-again to enter or see His Kingdom.

The True Nature of the Battle

Acts 17:1-7-The battle comes down to two main issues, who is Lord, God or man and whose laws are to govern in the affairs of men, God or man? Rome was not threatened religiously by Christianity, but politically. Most of the titles of the Lord are political in nature, not ecclesiastical. Yes, He is called the Great Shepherd and the Bishop of our souls, but most of His titles speak of Judge, Lord, King, and Governor of the nations.

One Nation under God

Our nation was founded, according to the Mayflower Compact, “In the name of God, for the glory of God and for the advancement of the Christian faith.” It developed as One Nation under God. Ronald Reagan warned that if we ever forget that we are One Nation under God, we will be a nation gone under. Why is that? If men reject the sovereignty of God, we have only two failed options to embrace, statism and the lie of the garden, which is the individual is sovereign. One leads to tyranny and the other to anarchy. Only One Nation under God can safeguard the delicate tension between authority and liberty. Only One Nation under God can secure a just social order on one hand and maximum individual freedom on the other hand.

Lawlessness Leads to Tyranny

Proverbs 28:2. Because men are sinful, we must be governed. The problem is sinful men rule sinful men. This is why our Founding Fathers stated that those who govern can only ruled by the consent of the governed. According to Robert Winthrop, “All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled either by a power within them, or by a power without them; either by the Word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible or by the bayonet.”

Daniel Webster warned, “If we and our posterity shall be true to the Christian religion, if we and they shall live always in the fear of God and shall respect His Commandments…we may have the highest hopes of the future fortunes of our country;…But if we and our posterity neglect religious instruction and authority; violate the rules of eternal justice, trifle with the injunctions of morality, and recklessly destroy the political constitution which holds us together, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”

In our day, good has become evil and evil, good and our government has codified evil into law. If our government is going to defend, promote, and honor abominations like abortion and homosexuality, they must of necessity punish the righteous.

In light of these realities we are struggling with under our watch, I’ll conclude this message with two relevant quotes. One is from A.A. Hodge who declared:

A Christian is just as much under the obligation to obey God’s will in the most secular of his daily business as he is in his closet or at the communion table. He has no right to separate his life into two realms, and acknowledge different moral codes in each…The kingdom of God includes all sides of human life, and it is a kingdom of absolute righteousness. You are either a loyal subject or a traitor. When the King comes, how will he find you doing? The kingdom of God is one, it cannot be divided…If the Church languishes, the State cannot be in health; and if the State rebels against its Lord and King, the Church cannot enjoy His favour…I charge you, citizens of the United States, afloat on your wide sea of politics, THERE IS ANOTHER KING, ONE JESUS: THE SAFETY OF THE STATE CAN BE SECURED ONLY IN THE WAY OF HUMBLE AND WHOLE-SOULED LOYALTY TO HIS PERSON AND OF OBEDIENCE TO HIS LAW.

Abraham Kuyper stated, “When principles that run against your deepest convictions begin to win the day, then battle is your calling, and peace has become your sin; you must, at the price of dearest peace, lay your convictions bare before friend and enemy, with all the fire of your faith.”

Those who have gone before us have run their lap of the race and bequeathed to us a nation conceived in liberty. The past few generations have squandered our godly heritage. They all are gone and it is our turn now. Folks, we must fight the good fight of faith for this is the victory that overcomes the world in Jesus’ mighty name!

Religious and Free

Faith and freedom coexist in Western Civilization, not as adversaries as some would have it but in a symbiosis. Faith begets freedom and freedom, faith. When Thomas Jefferson declared the self-evident truth that all men are created equal, he presumed to speak to a people steeped in a certain kind of learning. Self-evidence requires thinking after all.

People aren’t all the same height, weight, color, strength, skill, wealth, IQ or anything. The proposition he makes is accepted as truth only in terms of moral equality. The moral worth of every single individual under heaven is such that rights inhere in them—from a street sweeper to the bank president, from unemployed to self-employed or retired, from blue collar to white collar, from penniless to rich. The proposition is only accepted as truth by Western societies and cultures that emerged through hundreds of years of historic experience with Christianity. Ultimately individuals have rights—rights bound to be respected, because they are children of God and made in his image and likeness.

It may come as surprise to some people today to learn that the most basic and common standards of conduct are all directly linked to systematic codes of behavior based on the morality stemming from religion. ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free’ in one sense alludes to an enlarged physical realm for action, opportunity and a realized potential when (and only when) a majority of people aren’t stealing your stuff; ripping off your limbs; accosting wives, husbands, sons and daughters; tearing down fences; and burning down your house and barn.

If Western societies continue to secularize without regard for religion, then they do so benefiting from a residual good will and habits instilled by millions of people over centuries, who lived their religion and fought to live it; and fought again to keep the freedoms won, in order to follow their faith according to conscience so long as they did no harm to others. It is interesting that so many years removed from the factual dependence of freedom and legitimacy of civil authority on religion, that we have come to view religion and its expression as being dependent somehow on secular authority for legitimacy. Many see freedom as somehow threatened by religious exercise, whether in the public square or on private compounds, instead of seeing religious life as an outgrowth of freedom and the most concrete emanation of freedom possible. Metaphysically, one has to ask whether life has a purpose external to materiality. If so then it is first and foremost the province of religion and spirituality. If not, then life is all a matter of the state belonging to the state.

Fortunately a few states like Texas have court jurisprudence friendly towards parental rights and religious liberties, and the Texas Supreme Court has upheld again and again that religious institutions possess autonomy free from significant oversight by state agencies and courts. The recognition is vital to promoting liberty as understood by Thomas Jefferson and the other Founders. Its presumption is deference by the state to God’s own purpose for every human being and the individual’s prerogative-imperative to seek and find, and to pursue life’s spiritual journey. Any other ordering in terms of respect or priority vis-à-vis the secular state and religion descends into fascism, communism or an autocracy where freedom dies.

Fortunately faith is substantial and hardly powerless, and the greatest achievements in American secular freedom were accomplished on the heels as it were, after a season of revival. The Great Awakening fueled support for ideas animating the American Revolution. The Second Great Awakening served as ideational basis for changes leading to women’s suffrage and an end to slavery. Revivalism led to labor reform and the amelioration of urban problems after the period of rapid industrialization. Now is time for hope and fervent prayer for yet another great Revival to reclaim the legacy of freedom and to meet the unprecedented challenges facing us in the twenty-first century: May future generations be free enough to be religious; and may enough of them also be religious, so that all may keep their freedom.

Rekindle the Gift

No matter what your gift is or how much success you may have with it, there are times you get discouraged. No matter how much you enjoy, there will be times you get weary. That goes for a lot of dedicated folks you may not even think of, who generally enjoy their work. At a regional meeting of ministers, ask the same simple question to every one of them: “Are you enjoying your work?” You may be surprised, but those who know will tell you, almost none respond with a smile and enthusiastic “Yes!” You’re more likely to hear something like this: “Well, there are times when it is fulfilling but…” or “Well, the church politics gets to me but…” or “Well, it certainly has its downside.”

St. Paul wrote to young Timothy who was just starting his ministry, to “Rekindle the gift.” Indeed no matter how great the gift, it must be rekindled now and again. No matter how high you are today, you are going to face challenges that will take away the luster. When I was a boy, we would visit a backwoods cabin in Arkansas that had an old wood stove. That’s where I learned about kindling—small slivers and slices of wood that helped to get a really good fire going. You could roll up a newspaper and stack a little kindling around it, and then lay a big log on top of that. As the kindling got going, it would start the log burning, slowly but surely almost every time.

No matter how much bliss you find in your work, the fire is going to get low now and then. Sometimes you get a good idea and the internal wet blanket will say, “Why do it…no one will notice or care…it won’t do any good,” etc. The only way to handle an internal wet blanket is to put some kindling under it and get the fire going. Unless we become our own best encouragers, we will falter and fail. It is good to have friends to support us and to appreciate what we do. They can stoke our fires, but we must be our own best friend. It helps to realize what we do well IS a gift. How many people can do what you do? One thing for sure: no one can do what you do exactly like you do it. And if you don’t do it, it won’t get done.

Maybe we should not just tithe our money, but also “tithe” our time and talents, because if we don’t do what we are here to do, it will never be done. Take time to nurture yourself and your gifts. Gratitude for them is a little pile of kindling. No matter how little or how great a success we may feel ourselves to be, be grateful you are here to do the work you are gifted to do. Marry your gifts. Dedicate yourself to them for better or worse, for richer or poor. That may be in part what the virtue of “longsuffering” is all about too: dedication to cause, to mission, i.e., to the gift God gave you—even under adverse circumstances or a depressed personal mental attitude.

Cal Ripkin said that hard work is the process through which you obtain your results. It is true for baseball and true for life. Hard work at your particular gift is a way to glorify God in particular—a way to glorify Him in a way that nobody else can. “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone” (James 2:17 , see 14-26).

Excuse me now. I’ve got to cut some more kindling.

The White House Secret Kill List

In a recent column posted on, Judge Andrew Napolitano highlighted a recent New York Times investigative report that reveals how President Barack Obama is engaging in secret assassinations worldwide. Judge Napolitano begins, “The leader of the government regularly sits down with his senior generals and spies and advisers and reviews a list of the people they want him to authorize their agents to kill. They do this every Tuesday morning when the leader is in town. The leader once condemned any practice even close to this, but now relishes the killing because he has convinced himself that it is a sane and sterile way to keep his country safe and himself in power. The leader, who is running for re-election, even invited his campaign manager to join the group that decides whom to kill.

“This is not from a work of fiction, and it is not describing a series of events in the Kremlin or Beijing or Pyongyang. It is a fair summary of a 6,000-word investigative report in The New York Times earlier this week about the White House of Barack Obama. Two Times journalists, Jo Becker and Scott Shane, painstakingly and chillingly reported that the former lecturer in constitutional law and liberal senator who railed against torture and Gitmo now weekly reviews a secret kill list, personally decides who should be killed and then dispatches killers all over the world–and some of his killers have killed Americans.

“We have known for some time that President Obama is waging a private war. By that I mean he is using the CIA on his own–and not the military after congressional authorization–to fire drones at thousands of persons in foreign lands, usually while they are riding in a car or a truck. He has done this both with the consent and over the objection of the governments of the countries in which he has killed. He doesn’t want to talk about this, but he doesn’t deny it. How chilling is it that David Axelrod–the president’s campaign manager–has periodically seen the secret kill list? Might this be to keep the killings politically correct?”

The judge concludes, “Since 9/11, the United States government has set up national security systems that function not under the Constitution, not under the Geneva Conventions, not under the rule of law, not under the rules of war, not under federal law, but under a new secret system crafted by the Bush administration and personally directed by Obama, the same Obama who condemned these rules as senator and then extended them as president. In the name of fighting demons in pick-up trucks and wars that Congress has never declared, the government shreds our rights, taps our cellphones, reads our emails, kills innocents abroad, strip searches 87-year-old grandmothers in wheelchairs and 3-year-old babies in their mothers’ arms, and offers secrecy when the law requires accountability.

“Obama has argued that his careful consideration of each person he orders killed and the narrow use of deadly force are an adequate and constitutional substitute for due process. The Constitution provides for no such thing. He has also argued that the use of drones to do his killing is humane since they are ‘surgical’ and only kill their targets. We know that is incorrect. And he has argued that these killings are consistent with our values. What is he talking about? The essence of our values is the rule of law, not the rule of presidents.”

See Judge Napolitano’s column.

Let me begin by offering kudos to Judge Napolitano for his trenchant column, and kudos to New York Times reporters Jo Becker and Scott Shane for their blockbuster report.

Do readers not find it a little curious that hardly anyone in the national press corps–or even in the vast majority of the local media–has not picked up the Times report? After all, the New York Times is the unquestioned flagship newspaper of America. The vast majority of newspapers around the country rely on the NYT for much of their reporting. So, why didn’t we see this report blasted on front pages all across the United States? Do newspaper publishers and editors really think that this report is not Page One worthy? Is not this the kind of story that the freedom of the press was directly designed for? And where were the three major network news shows or even the cable news shows on this report? This is an incredible report, and for all intents and purposes, the story is relegated to media oblivion.

Oh, yes! Maybe we also now know why so many drones are beginning to appear over the skies of America.

One would think that the supposed “anti-Obama” FOX News network would be all over this story. To help enlighten readers, let me quickly point out the sagacious point that Judge Napolitano made in his column, “Since 9/11, the United States government has set up national security systems that function not under the Constitution, not under the Geneva Conventions, not under the rule of law, not under the rules of war, not under federal law, but under a new secret system crafted by the Bush administration.”

Ah! There it is! That’s why FOX News ignores the story. G.W. Bush is just as culpable in this monstrous activity as is Barack Obama. In fact, Bush is the one who created this modern American version of Hitler’s Brown Shirts. When it comes to ignoring the US Constitution and assuming dictatorial Hitlerian policies, Republican and Democrat Presidential administrations of late have been virtual Siamese Twins.

Now, please read this paragraph carefully (taken from “Germany became a nation of snoops. People were employed in each street, in each building complex, etc. with the sole purpose of keeping an eye on others in their ‘area’ and reporting them to the authorities if they believed that something was amiss. [Sounds like America’s Department of Homeland Security, doesn’t it?] The reputation of the Nazi police and the secret police lead by Himmler was such that no-one wished to cause offence. People kept their thoughts to themselves unless they wished to invite trouble. In this sense, Nazi Germany was a nation run on fear of the government. Hitler had created a one party state within months of being appointed chancellor.”

See the report here.

And ladies and gentlemen, this is why electing Mitt Romney will change nothing! The same Orwellian, big-government internationalists who are manipulating Barack Obama, and who manipulated G.W. Bush (and Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush) are manipulating Mitt Romney. Ever since President Ronald Reagan, it hasn’t mattered to a tinker’s dam whether a Republican or Democrat has been in the White House. As Sonny and Cher sang, “The Beat Goes On.” For all intents and purposes, America only has one party at the national level. Pat Buchanan was right when he said that the Elephants and Donkeys inside the Beltway were “two wings of the same bird of prey.”

Of course, if the American electorate suddenly got a surge of constitutional electricity and would elect Congressman Ron Paul as President, the story would be much different. Things would change at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue–not to mention in the United States and the entire world–dramatically. However, with the majority of Americans in the hip pockets of the mainstream media, a Romney/Obama showdown in November seems inevitable (although I am still privately cheering for a Ron Paul coup d’etat at the GOP national convention in Tampa).

So, how many people have been or are on this secret kill list–and who are they? With the vast majority of the mainstream media cowering in abject fear of the federal government, and with both major parties in Washington, D.C., walking in lockstep to the drumbeat of an emerging police state, who is left to even sound an alarm of protest? Well, two New York Times reporters did; Judge Andrew Napolitano did; Lew Rockwell did. And now I am, too.

Is this the kind of government that most Democrats want? Is this what they wanted when they elected Barack Obama? Is this the kind of government that most Republicans want? Is this what they wanted when they elected G.W. Bush?

Anyone who cannot see history being repeated is flat not paying attention! I cannot believe my country has turned into this!

Anyway, thank you Judge Napolitano for being a watchman on the wall!
